New Miss America is OK

Literally.
The former Miss Oklahoma, Lauren Nelson, is the new Miss America. Miss Oklahoma came across as sweet, polite, kind -- and a little bit boring -- making the judges' decision seem a little more safe and conservative than I was expecting from folks like Debbie Allen and Michael Feinstein and Nigel Barker. Oh, well.

The new Miss America is 20 and she attends the University of Central Oklahoma where she is studying Musical Theater. Her platform issue is Internet Safety for Kids. For talent, she performed the song "You'll Be in My Heart."

Finally, in case you haven't already heard this or didn't already know this, Lauren becomes the second Miss Oklahoma in a row to win the Miss America title. The last time this happened was way back in 1960 when Lynda Mead was crowned by Mary Ann Mobley -- back-to-back winners from Mississippi.

okay..I couldn't WAIT to see what you had to say..and I totally agree..my jaw DROPPED when Texas wasn't called out as the winner..Miss OK was just..not that great, for lack of better words..the judges talked about how they were looking for someone with spark and a modernized Miss A and they picked someone that faded into the background in my opinion...and if this is Miss America's idea of a publicity stunt, I'm not laughing...Amanda represented us well and I am PROUD to say she is my Miss GA!!!!!

When I saw Miss Oklahoma's reaction to being named Miss America, I couldn't help but think of Olive in "Little Miss Sunshine."

This was a big "huh?" for me. Miss OK was by far the worst of the finalists. At least Texas and Alabama came across as real, down to earth types. Oh well.

I was devastated! I honestly thought that Amanda was going to take it, and was thrown for a loop when they called her as 2nd runner up!
I thought Miss Oklahoma and Miss Texas had subpar talents, and I thought OK completely fumbled her question.
